ya its just a marketing tool. (bigger number might mean better sales). just compare it side by side with one another and whichever one looks better to you is the one you should get.

@TravvyG well considering that there is no set standard for contrast ratios i guess you have nothing to worry about. Sony 100,000:1 is totally different than samsung or Panasonic. i have seen 100,000:1 ratio tvs that have a better looking contrast ratio than a 1,000,000:1.
