Newegg Review: LG 47″ LED-LCD TV and HDTV Tech Tips

http://www.newegg.com

Today we’re taking a closer look at an LED-backlit LCD TV from LG, the 47LE5400.
This TV features a crisp, clear LCD display and the inherent benefits of LED-backlighting: better contrast and less power consumption. Networking features are an excellent addition as well, and the TV’s on-screen display makes it simple to get the TV connected to online streaming services like Netflix.

If you’re interested in some more info on HDTVs in general, we’ve also included some tips to de-mystify some of the new technology such as watching 3D movies and video games.

    @bluhammer Good …
    @bluhammer Good catch! Our test bed runs ATI video cards, which do an automatic 15% image scaling when connected via HDMI (since it assumes you’re connecting to a TV and not a computer monitor).

    We turned image scaling off since it had the opposite effect (image was too small with a black border) on our 26″ ASUS monitor, which runs 1900×1200 for benchmarking. We didn’t turn 15% scaling back on for this video, so the image fed to the 47″ LG is a bit over-sized and cuts off at the edges.

    @EyeamEJ No, it …
    @EyeamEJ No, it definitely won’t be that long. At the VERY most 3 years, but I’m sure it will be more like 2. Technology is only getting faster when it comes to advancements, and OLED technology is being worked on all the time to be made into a better standard. Once OLED is perfected it will be very cheap to manufacture, and environmentally friendly. It’s going to be a revolutionary technology as it won’t only be used to screens, but many other things too.

    i help my nieghbor a few days a go move a 32 inch 13 year old sony tv . and WOOOOWWW that was heavy . Over 100 pounds and hella boulky.

  22. EyeamEJ Says:

    @hoboX10 You’re …
    @hoboX10 You’re going to have to wait longer than 2 years. It hard to even find a small oled tv right now and when you do they are expensive. We might have 40in oled tvs in 2 years but they will not be cheap for another 4-6 years. So if you’re waiting for a big and cheap oled you’re going to have to wait 7-10 years.

  23. hoboX10 Says:

    I’m holding off on …
    I’m holding off on buying a new TV until OLED TV is available in the 40″ sizes at affordable prices. Shouldn’t be any longer than a year or two now. So excited…
